"The flowing river never stops
and yet the water never stays the same.
Foam floats upon the pools,
scattering, re-forming,
never lingering long.
So it is with man
and all his dwelling places
here on earth.” -Hojo-ki by KAMO no Chomei

It was September 10, 2021.
I had been feeling physically and mentally unwell for a long time, so I went to see a psychosomatic doctor.
The doctor's diagnosis was "depression".
Overwhelmed by reality, I was stunned for several weeks, unable to do anything.
Pessimistic thoughts were going round and round in my head.
It was painful to be alive, and I was filled with a sense of hopelessness.
Eventually, I could take a walk and began to enjoy exploring the Kisogawa basin, which I had been familiar with since childhood.
As I did so, the scenery around me calmed my mind.
I wanted to let go of the attachments in my mind and let nature take its course.
So I decided to record the scenery of the Kisogawa basin.
At first, I started with familiar places, but as my interest deepened, I wanted to document a wider area of the river basin.
Due to diurnal variation, a typical symptom of depression, I was only able to be active in the afternoon, so I photographed much of the area using the gentle light of the evening.
